Needle Palm

   Scientific Name à Rhapidophyllum hystrix

   Origin à Southeastern United States

Hardiness Zone à 6B-10B no damage at 5°

    Growth Rate  à Slow

    Soil Preferences  à Widely adaptable

    Light Requirements  à Moderate

    Drought Tolerance  à Moderate

     Fruit Size  à 1" Inch.

Comments: Though usally found in the understory of rich, hardwood forests, needle palms can be adapted to full sun and makes an interesting specimen palm for accent. It is one of the hardiest palm species (perhaps the hardiest of them all). It is a clustering palm, with only the larger specimen showing trunk, as pictured above in a 45 gallon container with 5'-6' in height.

3gallon, 7gallon, 15gallon, and 45 gallon Needle Palms are available.
