Windmill Palm

Trachycarpus fortunei, commonly known as the Windill Palm is one of the hardiest palms in cultivation, capable of withstanding severe freezes with no damage. In its native habitat, it may even recieve a light winter snow cover. Hot tropical climates are not to this species' liking, and specimens tend to be short lived in those areas. It has also proven at least moderately susceptible to lethal yellowing. The Windmill palm is most useful for providing a tropical accent in warm temperate zones, and grows well in cool summer areas such as the coastal carolina's, coastal Virgina, and coastal California. The Windmill palm is also tolerant of partial shade.
