1. Can the Palm Tree be grown in your area?We believe this should be your number question. First thing you will need to know is the hardiness zone where the palm is to be planted. The Variety of Palm.Choose a palm variety that can withstand the minimum cold weather temperatures of your zone. (Find your hardiness zone here)3. Size and Health of the Palm.The size of the palm is important because the larger the palm is the more root structure it will have! Therefore a palm planted from a 15 gallon pot will be hardier than a 1 gallon palm. Its best to get the palm planted as soon as possible, as the ground will insulate the root zone and even more important the palm can start gaining established roots!Healthy and established palms are the best measure you can take in preparing the palm for the coming winter months.Studies show that adding fertilizer and other nutrients during winter will have no affect on the survival of palm trees. Plant in the Spring or Summer!While you can be successful in planting palms in the winter it is well known that planting in the warmer weather will give you the best chance of success, It is then the palm will start gaining an established root system. Palm trees can go through a shock of being transplanted, and so this also gives the palm time to recover and start growing in its new home before having to withstand cold temperatures.
